Suggestions for use:

1) Display a card at the front of the class and discuss what’s happening with the students

Some of the questions you might ask could be

“What might this scenario represent for an autistic person?”or

“How might an autistic person experience this scenario compared to someone who is neurotypical?”

“What message might this scenario be trying to display?”

2) Give one card to each student or one card to a group of students

Let them discuss the scene with each other and present their thoughts to the rest of the class

3) Display the cards on a wall in the classroom or a visitor waiting area

Let people think for themselves!

4) Use the cards to engage with one particular student

Maybe you know a young person who is struggling because of their autism, or who might be able to identify with some of the scenarios shown on the cards

The cards could be a conversation-starter

“I feel like that too”

5) Use the cards in a similar way with staff members

Discuss the scenarios with one another to enhance your understanding of autism

You might have autistic students or colleagues

The cards can be used to give young people and adults an understanding of autism

They can be used to promote an understanding of what it means to think differently

And to make people put themselves in another person’s shoes!
