Controlling what you can and managing what you can’t

Posted: January 4, 2019

One very important lesson I have learned which helps in many areas of my life is: controlling what can be controlled and executing strategies to manage what can't be controlled. A strategy I use to deal with such situations is to work out what, right now in that situation in that moment, can be controlled to my benefit.

How to develop self-confidence and belief

Posted: December 26, 2018

People on the autistic spectrum are prone to suffering from low self esteem. This usually stems from childhood, where a child who does not fit in, such as someone who is autistic, is likely to be bullied. Many autistic people are really interesting individuals with useful and sometimes amazing skills. So how can we help someone who is autistic appreciate their uniqueness and skills and therefore become more confident and have a stronger belief in themselves?

10 ways to deal with unreliable people

Posted: December 17, 2018

I sometimes describe myself as being like a robot. In fact, other people often remark on how routine, reliable, disciplined and predictable I am. It is a characteristic that people admire about me. They tease me about it but then they also say that they wish they were more like me! The main drawback of being so reliable is that the majority of other people are not as reliable, so there is actually a mismatch a lot of the time between me and other people.

Linear vs non-linear thinking

Posted: December 11, 2018

I have been reading about the idea of linear and non-linear thinking. Linear thinking is "ordered thinking in which one thought follows another in a straight line". This is in comparison to more non-linear thinking in which thoughts are "a bit more varied and each thought links to another in more than one way". This is my rough summary! Of course human beings and their thoughts are far more complex than this in reality. If I illustrate these two types of thinking, it might look like this:

How to cope with not being able to integrate

Posted: December 3, 2018

Even though I always think that no one can tell I have ASD, there is at least one sign that I think should lead some people being able to work out that I do. I wasn't diagnosed with ASD when I was a child. Nobody thought anything was 'different' about me, but to be honest it was obvious there was something 'different' about me because I was...

How to be disciplined and focused

Posted: November 24, 2018

As an entrepreneur and highly creative person, I find myself managing multiple projects all the time. Although I love what I do, in the past I have suffered from feeling overwhelmed. When I felt overwhelmed due to my workload, I I would freeze and go and hide in my bed, hoping that by doing that, all my work would magically get done on its own. Despite my workload being just as high, I don't feel the need to do that anymore. I have got better at being disciplined and remaining focused.

Autism – a difference or disability?

Posted: November 15, 2018

In the UK autism is a recognised disability. I have noticed that some autistic people don't consider their autism to be a disability. This interests me as I feel strongly that my autism is a disability, however I can also see why people might think otherwise. What is meant by a disability? A disability is an impairment that affects a person's life.

What is meant by ASD ‘thought processes’?

Posted: November 5, 2018

On further contemplation about whether ASD is part of my personality or is it separate, I began thinking about my thoughts. I think that what human beings think about is linked to their personality which pushes me even further to conclude that ASD is a part of my personality. Obviously it is a deep complex… Join The Curly Hair Project Community Today This article and our podcasts are available only to members of our community. Why I am careful about who I talk to

Posted: October 27, 2018

One way that I have learned to be less affected by my high emotional sensitivity and manage mood swings is to have a calmer, more steady life. Another way that I have learned to better cope with my emotional sensitivity and reduce mood swings is to take caution about who I talk to about myself and my life. Talking to the 'wrong' person can make me feel worse.
