Some months ago I had a single unfavourable social interaction. During the days afterwards I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I was trying to analyse it. It’s been months now and I still think about it every now and then. I wonder whether the other person thinks about it as well? The answer is… maybe they do, maybe they don’t!
Like many autistic people, I tend to reflect upon situations afterwards. Sometimes I scrutinise them in great detail. It’s not necesarily good or bad that I do this, it is just what I do. It is how my brain works.
That other person might be feeling the same way as me about the interaction – that it was undesirable. However, they may very well not be feeling that way! As an autistic person, I have to remind myself that human beings don’t all think about things in the same way. We all have our own thoughts. We don’t necessarily even think about the same things.
