Communicating about social anxiety

Posted by: alisrowe, November 7, 2015

A large number of people with ASD also have social anxiety. This article provides some tips on communicating with others about our social anxiety.

Deciding on who to tell

You do not have to tell everyone you know that you have social anxiety. Personally, I only disclose when I feel it would provide an explanation or justification for something. You certainly do not need it to be the first thing you tell someone the first time you meet them – at that stage, people generally want to get a feel for your personality and not hear a long list of problems you have… The reality is, we all have issues and not everyone wants to hear about problems all of the time.
