I have been working with children for over 10 years now, most recently as a teacher in both mainstream and private schools. I have worked with a vast array of neurodiverse children, including a number of autistic children. I have a passion for finding out what motivates and validates individuals and believe this skill helps me to be a competent teacher and trainer. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as an Events Organiser and Trainer in both the corporate and public sectors.
There are a number of autistic adults and children in my family, which gives me a special connection to how life sometimes feels for autistic people. I discovered The Curly Hair Project three years ago, I find Alis’ descriptions invaluable in explaining autism to others; her simple diagrams and use of language help people to grasp how some autistic people interact with everyday life.
Aside from CHP, I am completing further studies around Autism, where I have the opportunity to hear different autistic speakers, which I am finding inspirational. I feel very proud to be involved with CHP and to be able to deliver Alis’ presentations.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, walking our dog, dancing and writing poetry.
