I have been teaching in a range of secondary schools for the past twelve years. I have been Head of Religious Studies at my current school since 2010 and I am a trained Mental Health First Aider. I have previously been the school’s Mental Health Lead and Pupil Premium Lead which has meant that I have worked with many students who have been diagnosed and not yet diagnosed with ASD. This has involved providing mentoring, mental health coping strategies and personalised support.
I have written articles for teaching magazines such as Teach Secondary and Sec Ed on a range of topics including Girls with ASD and Mental Health. I have recently finished written a book on Supporting staff Mental Health in Schools which will be released later in the year by Jessica Kingsley.
I am currently awaiting an adult diagnosis for Asperger’s Syndrome. As a result of this, I have read extensively around the topic as one of my ‘special interests’ and have found Alis’s resources really helpful in my own diagnostical journey. As soon as I found them, I knew I had to spread the word in some way!
I want to help make sure that Alis’s excellent knowledge is shared to make sure that families, teachers and friends feel supported on their own Autism journey.
On a personal note I love reading, skateboarding, paddle-boarding, playing the drums on ROCKBAND and cleaning the beach with my husband.
