ASD transitions and the ‘space’

first-then-sequencing-asdChange is difficult for people with ASD. Textbooks and psychologists will explain that the two main reasons for this are:

  • Rigid thinking / inflexible thoughts
  • Anxiety linked to the unknown

The ‘space’

Based on these two bullet points, I can say that the most difficult part of change, for me, is actually the ‘space’ between the current situation and the new situation. This diagram illustrates the space:
